For a GM, the location is useful for a tense approach or observation scene. Characters have limited room to bypass anything blocking the path, while the strange formations provide concealment and landmarks along the route. It can serve as a planar coast, alien shoreline, fey boundary or remote beach where the party feels watched long before it knows by what.
