The Barb is a modern experimental residence designed around climate, work and controlled privacy. Sandalwood blinds are kept damp with stored rainwater to encourage cross-ventilation, giving the building a practical environmental feature that is visible in its architecture rather than merely described as magical comfort. Inside, laboratories and work areas share the structure with quieter rooms, creating a compact complex built for sustained research.

Several mapped sections let a GM move between exterior approach, living space and more specialized experimental areas without treating the site as a generic wizard's tower. In Strength of Thousands: Shadows of the Ancients, the building is closely associated with Koride and her work. Elsewhere it can serve as an inventor's residence, alchemical research house or academic retreat. The clean design and functional rooms make investigations easy to stage: characters can understand what each space is for, then notice when an object or experiment does not belong where it should.
