About this Map
Formian Hivelands is an exposed alien wilderness of ochre ground, scattered rock formations, and clusters of circular pits or burrow openings that immediately suggest a landscape shaped by creatures living below the surface. There are few constructed features and little conventional cover, so the terrain feels less like a destination and more like territory the characters must cross while never knowing which opening matters.
For a GM, the hivelands are ideal for encounters built around emergence and movement. Burrows provide believable entrances for formians or other subterranean creatures, rocks create isolated pockets of cover, and the broad open ground leaves travelers vulnerable once they move away from those features. In Strength of Thousands: Doorway to the Red Star, the map fits the strange environments encountered beyond familiar Golarion. Outside the Adventure Path it works as an insectoid colony surface, blasted badlands, alien desert, ankheg field, or hostile nesting ground where danger can arrive from beneath rather than across the horizon.
