About this Map
Old Bonegrinder is a narrow multi-story windmill whose circular floors force every encounter into close quarters. The lower level combines the mill's working machinery with storage and domestic use, while steep stairs lead upward through increasingly confined rooms. Heavy timber, grinding equipment and the central mechanism occupy valuable floor space, leaving characters little room to spread out once combat begins.
The vertical layout is the real tactical feature. A GM can place threats on separate floors, make the stairwell a dangerous bottleneck and let sounds from above or below warn characters without revealing exactly what waits there. In Curse of Strahd, Old Bonegrinder's innocent rural silhouette contrasts sharply with what happens inside. Outside Barovia, it works as a sinister windmill, isolated miller's home or cramped tower encounter where controlling the stairs matters more than controlling the center of a room.
