About this Map
Castle Ravenloft is not a single battlemap but a full gothic fortress rendered across a large network of floors, towers, halls, crypts and exterior approaches. Grand audience spaces and formal chambers occupy parts of the upper castle, while narrow servants' routes, staircases and tower connections weave between them. Balconies, battlements and high windows open onto lethal drops, giving the upper structure a constant vertical danger even before the characters descend.
Deeper within the castle, the tone and geometry shift. Cellars, dungeons, flooded or enclosed chambers and the vast crypt complex replace courtly architecture with tighter stone routes. Numerous stairways connect distant parts of the fortress, allowing movement through Ravenloft to feel labyrinthine without becoming arbitrary: a party can climb toward towers, descend toward the catacombs or emerge in a wing far from where they expected. For a GM, those connections support pursuit and pressure particularly well because enemies can withdraw through the castle instead of waiting room by room.
The map set is large enough to run Ravenloft as a location with its own geography rather than a sequence of isolated encounters. Dining halls, chapels, bedrooms, studies, towers, corridors and crypts each provide different tactical spaces, and the transitions between them matter. In Curse of Strahd, the castle is the central stronghold of the adventure and the maps preserve the original tabletop layout rather than a CRPG interpretation. Outside the module, the same collection can serve as a complete vampire fortress or cursed royal castle capable of supporting exploration over many sessions.
