Barkfell Lowlands spread across a damp forest floor thick with moss, ferns and flowering undergrowth. Root-ringed burrows and sinkholes puncture the ground in several places, turning what first appears to be open woodland into a field full of hidden entrances and sudden drops.

For a GM, those holes are the defining encounter feature. Creatures can emerge from below, disappear only a few squares away or force characters to choose between crossing open ground and moving through denser cover. The vegetation keeps sightlines short without enclosing the party in walls. Barkfell Lowlands works especially well for burrowing predators, hidden warrens, tracking encounters or a tense forest crossing where the danger is not in the trees but beneath everyone's feet.
